Application and properties:
Agglomerated aluminate-rutile type flux for welding general structural steels, pressure vessel and pipe steels, as well as fine grain structural steels having a yield strength up to 355N/mm2. AMA UNIVERSAL produces a relatively high silicon pick-up. When using 50-11, 50-12 wire electrodes, also a manganese is suited at approximately 1.3%. The flux can therefore be used with low manganese wire electrodes. AMA UNIVERSAL is particularly suited for twin-wire, tandem and multi-wire welding at higher speeds and advantageous in welding from both sides in one pass, e.g. thin-walled spiral pipes. For increased weld metal toughness, molybdenum alloyed wire electrodes (50-14) should be used with AMA-UNIVERSAL flux. It is specially suited for welding tube-web-tube joints or finned tubes.
Owing easy slag removal, It is also well suited for fillet welding. The weld metal produced is relatively insensitive to porosity when welding on plates contaminated by rust, scale etc. AMA UNIVERSAL can be used on either DC (positive) or AC up to approximately 900A (in single wire welding).
Damp flux shall be redried by baking at 300°C – 350°C
