Austenitic stainless steel welding wire rod for TIG welding .The nominal composition (wt %) of this classification is 20.5 Cr, 25 Ni, 4.7 Mo, and 1 .5 Cu, and the all-weld metal microstructure is normally fully austenitic . Weld metal is resistant to stress corrosion and grain boundary corrosion. The resistance to pitting corrosion is better than that of 18Cr-8Ni-Mo steels. The weld metal of this product is completely austenitic and should be welded with low heat input.

Construction of equipment and storage tanks for sulfuric acid and phosphoric acid.
ER385 filler metal is used primarily for welding of ASTM B625, B673, B674, and B677 (UNS N08904) materials for the handling of sulfuric acid and many chloride containing media. ER385 filler metal also may be used to join Type 317L material where improved corrosion resistance in specific media is needed. ER385 filler metal may be used for joining UNS N08904 base metals to other grades of stainless steel
